Normal Mapping

Technologies: C++, OpenGL

 

Normal Mapping allows flat surfaces to have more lighting detail without actually having to map out the surface with hundreds of polygons. A normal map is used to alter the surface normals, which leads to the viewer seeing more detail due to lighting variations of the plane's surface. The diffuse map and the normal map used is shown below.
